Economic Development Overpowering Ecodevelopment

Economic Development Overpowering Ecodevelopment

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

In 2022, people are fascinated by money and financial progress. The statement "Money Can Buy Happiness" which is somewhat accurate, but it is the root cause of this delusion that money is everything you earn it by hook or crook. However, as an environmentalist, I have a different perspective on this. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT SHOULD BE REPLACED BY Ecological SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT. We are no longer in our early 2000s. We need to rethink how we do business, how we make money, and how we establish financial strategy across countries. Ecodevelopment criteria must be included into financial strategy to build a green economy. Green here only refers to an economy which is built on the foundation of eco-friendly & sustainable manners.

Why Eco-Development above Economic Development?

When it comes to human development, we are not in the best shape possible. There is still a large economic disparity amongst citizens all across the world. India is still ranked 101 on the Global Hunger Index, whereas Russia is ranked 25, Turkey is ranked 18, Pakistan is ranked 92, and many other nations are far behind. There are individuals who sleep hungry all over the world, children who die every day owing to poor sanitation and lack of medical facilities, homeless people sleep on roads, human trafficking, cyber crime, assaults, and many other issues. We either leave people behind in the chase for money and survival, or else they engage in criminal activities to make money. These sorts of activities generally are not ecologically viable like animal trafficking, hunting, smuggling of animals of natural resources. This is the present state of our global ecosystem.

Now, come to our most innocent yet most significant part of our ecosystem “animals”. In the name of business or economic development or human development we are continuously torturing them, killing them, exploiting them. Let me remind you all about the universal truth “THIS PLANET BELONGS TO ANIMALS TOO, THEY ARE CRUCIAL FOR OUR SURVIVAL”. We cannot survive without them. Agree on this or not, it will remain the ultimate fact. So, as we all know, animal exploitation is increasing day-by-day in the name of economic development.

Some heart wrenching facts:

  • One animal is abused every minute.

  • Annually, over 10 million animals in the US are abused to death.

  • 97% of animal cruelty cases come from farms, where most of these creatures die.

  • Laboratory testing uses 115 million animals in experiments every year.

  • Dogs comprise 65% of all abused animals.

  • Consumption is at fault for the yearly death of more than 100,000 horses in the US.

  • Above 50% of the US’s fur comes from China, where cats and dogs are bled and skinned to death.

  • Each year, nearly 9 billion chickens are slaughtered for their meat in the United States, while 305 million hens are utilized for their eggs.

So, our current economic structure is offering us animal cruelty which is scientifically not at all healthy for are ecosystem and disrupting ecological balance. Advancement has not always had favorable benefits. The benefits of growth haven't reached everyone in society. Many portions of the population continue to live in deplorable conditions. The increasing gap between the various strata of society within many countries exaggerates the various levels. Millions of landless poor are forced into the deep forests, into places marginal to agricultural production, high into the Andes, by the vestiges of latifundial, development programmes, and many sorts of calamity. Current economic development approach is rejected by climate scientists, wildlifers, environmentalists and most sensible persons of our society. The essential ecological services are getting harmed by these activities. So, there is a need to adopt other strategies. Here  comes ecological sustainable development……

Which kind of development do we need?

Ecodevelopment is a form of sustainable development focused on the long-term optimization of biosphere resources such as air, water, soil, and natural resources, among others. It is a strategic approach of development based on the wise use of natural resources and the application of appropriate technologies and production systems that take into consideration in order to protect the environment. It is also known as “Ecological development”.

Ecological Development focuses on development that is socially responsible and it must possess the quality of nature nurturing. Ecological Sustainable development is the twin brother of this term. The United Nations has come up with 17 Sustainable Development Goals through which we can build an ecologically viable economy in the world.

17 Sustainable Development Goal of United Nation For Green Economy

Ecological perspective of development can be achieved via SDGs. At Rio+20, governments decided to position the green economy as a vital tool for sustainable development, one that is inclusive and capable of driving economic growth, employment, and poverty eradication while preserving the Earth's ecosystems. Importantly, the final paper recognises the need of creating capacity, exchanging knowledge, and sharing experience in implementing green economic policies. With policy changes and structural changes in our financial framework, we can achieve a green economy i,e we will move towards ecological development.  In order to protect our water, air, land, soil, forests, wetlands, oceans, glaciers, and most importantly our health, we need to focus on these below listed goals sanctioned by the United Nations with the agreement of World leaders.

17 SDGs are:

GOAL 1: No Poverty

GOAL 2: Zero Hunger

GOAL 3: Good Health and Well-being

GOAL 4: Quality Education

GOAL 5: Gender Equality

GOAL 6: Clean Water and Sanitation

GOAL 7: Affordable and Clean Energy

GOAL 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

GOAL 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

GOAL 10: Reduced Inequality

GOAL 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

GOAL 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

GOAL 13: Climate Action

GOAL 14: Life Below Water

GOAL 15: Life on Land

GOAL 16: Peace and Justice Strong Institutions

GOAL 17: Partnerships to achieve the Goal

Benefits of Ecological Sustainable Development

  1. ZERO Animal Cruelty

  2. Clean Air

  3. Clear Water

  4. Toxic Metal or Carcinogenic Particle Free Soil

  5. Increase in Forest Lands

  6. Marine Animals Species Population Improvement

  7. Less Economic Disparity

  8. Higher Employment Rate

  9. Wild Animals Protection

Success Stories

Working with their local MEP Centres on sustainability and green projects, American firms are generating verifiable outcomes. Among the accomplishments are:

  • E3 Review Strengthens Virginia Company's Environmental Commitment, Savings of Over $200,000

  • Programs that are lean and clean Assist a New Jersey manufacturer in achieving $3 million in new sales, 5 new employees, and $500,000 in cost savings.

  • The Profitable Sustainability Initiative (PSI) helps a Wisconsin company save fuel and emissions while also recognising $75,000 in shipping costs. A Kansas company saves more than $61,000 in overall equipment and $24,000 in annual energy costs.

  • A New Hampshire manufacturer reduces energy use by 10% and saves $25,000 per year thanks to an energy efficiency project.

Difference Between Sustainability and “Going Green”

Although they are connected, "becoming green" is not the same as "sustainability." Green is more generally connected with a single product or process, despite the fact that the phrases are often used interchangeably. Creating a product entirely out of recycled materials or upgrading a certain activity so that it does not hurt the environment are two examples.

Sustainability is usually related with an organisation's holistic strategy, which considers the complete manufacturing process as well as logistics. You might, for example, buy a green product created from recycled materials. However, if a similar product was manufactured elsewhere and transported to the United States using ecologically detrimental ways, it would not be in accordance with sustainable standards.

Focusing on both green and sustainability is helpful in the manufacturing environment. While focused changes might be useful to your business, considering the "larger picture" enhances the benefits of a green emphasis.

So, there is a simple Mantra of boosting ecological sustainable development by choosing best ways to reduce energy consumption for all activities, going vegan, switching to renewables, recycle, refurbish and be loyal and be kind towards other while making money.
