ANIMALS OR RESOURCES?
"These Beings are not
Resources. They are living, breathing, hurting members of our living family.
They deserve happiness too"
We share our living spaces with various species some of them
are intricately linked with our daily routines as they provide us essential
components that are considered to be important for our survival. The world
livestock population is more than the human population, Brazil followed by
India and China has the highest cattle and livestock populations. The rise in
cattle and livestock population is due to the higher demands of livestock
products in developed as well as developing Nations.
Animals are providing resources, they are economically viable for nation-building, then where is the issue?
There are few issues related to the Livestock Industry, Fisheries, poultry, etc.,
- Livestock Farming Degrade the Environment.
- Land and Water resources get worst Affected
- Contributes to Greenhouse gas emissions
- Huge land is estimated to be used for Animal Farming
- Large amount of grains is utilized in Animal Farming
- Animal Farming is Unethical
- Unhealthy for Human Consumption
It has a large Environmental Footprint that causes land, water
degradation through polluting natural resources which ultimately leads to acid
rain, climate change, and global warming issues. It is estimated that 18%
Greenhouse gas emission caused by the human population is caused due to livestock
farming. Around 30% of the Earth's surface is utilized for Animal farming and
cattle rearing which damages the forest lands, farmlands and impacts
Biodiversity of the region.
In the above figure, you can make an idea about the number of cows being slaughtered for the Beef production in distinct
parts of the World.
Various issues in the slaughtering of innocent animals the meat production are increasing year by year
in the name of Tasty food and Health Benefits which are not true.
When we keep Animals as a pet in our homes, we provide the
best foods, basic accommodation or amenities, keep them with tenderness and
protects them from any harm. In the same way Farm animals and animals which are
used for riding in extreme places must be handled with the same care and
tenderness.
Considering animals as a resource is not an ecologically
sound approach, animals have equal rights on the Earth. Humans must make wise
decisions to manage the land and resources and distribute among the species
equally in a sustainable manner for the wholesome development of nature.
